   D. Lani McElgun, M.A., LMFT

 

   Ms. McElgun, M.A., LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist (New York State license #000756). She holds a Bachelors Degree in psychology and a Masters Degree in marriage and family therapy from Hofstra University.

   Ms. McElgun is a Certified Anger Management Specialist-1 by the National Anger Management Association (NAMA). Her workshop has recently been approved for court-mandated clients (see anger management section for more details). In addition, she created and facilitated a women's midlife support group entitled, "Midlife Crisis...or Midlife Opportunity" which was featured in Newsday (February 4, 2006).

   Among her many accomplishments, Ms. McElgun recently co-authored a journal article, "The Socially Constructed Meanings of Menopause:  Another Case of Manufactured Madness?" published by The Haworth Press, Inc., Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy, Vol 7(2), 2008
 
   Ms. McElgun provides therapy services to individuals, couples and families on a broad range of topics (see services section). Therapy is short term and goal oriented. She offers a unique professional, educational and empathetic approach.

   Anella C. Pereira, M.A., LMFT

 

   Ms. Pereira is a licensed marriage and family therapist (The University of the State of NY, The State Education Department License #00742. She holds a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hofstra University, NY).

   Ms. Pereira provides short term, goal oriented individual, couple and family therapy within a humanistic framework. Her areas of specialization include working with children, adolescents, adults and couples, dealing with behavior, low self- esteem and relationship issues and those experiencing crisis and traumatic stress. She works hand in hand with community agencies providing support services to victims of domestic violence with the goal of empowering them and with schools on children/adolescents behavior and parenting.

   In addition she has developed and facilitated several psycho-educational workshops and support groups in English and Spanish on topics including, but not limited to, Parenting Without Stress, Among Women…How to Increase your Self-Esteem and Reach Your Goals, Caring for the Caregiver, Stress Management, Parent Support Group for Families with Special Needs Children, Victim of Domestic Violence Support Group. She is available for speaking engagements on Parenting, Self Esteem and Stress Management.

   Her passion for the profession and empathetic approach has inspired her clients’ trust. She creates a safe and supportive environment where, in collaboration with her clients, they explore solutions bringing about positive change.

She is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the Metro Chapter New York Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the American Psychological Association.
